American international hitter Aaron Jones has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket after being accused of multiple breaches of anti-corruption rules by both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI). The governing bodies confirmed the development in a joint press release issued on Wednesday, January 28.

The charges relate to alleged corrupt activities during the 2023-2024 season and are part of a broader investigation that may involve other individuals.

Allegations against Aaron Jones in connection with the Barbados Bim10 tournament

A significant portion of the case against Jones stems from alleged incidents during the Barbados Bim10 tournament, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI Anti-Corruption Code. Under this code, Jones is accused of fixing or attempting to fix aspects of matches, and of failing to disclose the approaches made to him to engage in corrupt conduct.

He has also been accused of failing to fully cooperate with a reasonable investigation conducted by a designated anti-corruption officer, a charge considered serious under the CWI framework.

In addition to the costs of the CWI, the ICC has filed two separate charges against Jones under its anti-corruption code. These charges relate to international competitions and accuse the perpetrator of failing to report full details of approaches or invitations to participate in corrupt activities to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).

Jones has also been charged with obstructing an ACU investigation by allegedly concealing or tampering with information relevant to the investigation. The ICC stressed that such actions undermine the integrity of the sport and will be treated with zero tolerance.

Jones’ provisional suspension and response timeline

As a result of the allegations, Jones has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. The ICC confirmed that the suspension will remain in effect while the disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.

Jones has been given 14 days from January 28 to formally respond to the allegations. Both governing bodies have stated that no further public comment will be made until the process is complete.

The ICC also noted that the investigation is ongoing and further charges against other individuals could follow in due course, depending on the findings.

Jones’ strong presence in international and franchise cricket

The development marks a significant setback for American cricket, with Jones one of the most experienced players in the national setup. The 31-year-old has represented the United States in 100 international matches, including 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is. He played a match-winning knock for his national team against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Apart from international cricket, Jones also has an active presence on the global T20 circuit. He played for the Seattle Orcas in American Major League Cricket and for the St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). His most recent appearance was in the Abu Dhabi T10 League in November 2025.
