Szoboszlai again Liverpool’s best, but Isak scores 3/10!

It’s almost getting boring how often Dominik Szoboszlai is Liverpool’s best player, but others were also close to his rating in the 1-0 away win against Inter Milan.

The Reds secured no fewer than three points in the Champions League, with Szoboszlai’s late penalty easing the pressure on Arne Slot.

Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool echo, GOAL and the TIA readers.

Szoboszla (8.13) got top marks for the Reds and buried a penalty that Mohamed Salah would have been proud of.

GOAL’s Mark Doyle described it as “another dynamic performance” from the Hungarian, who has become such an influential figure for Liverpool this season.

Ian Doyle of the Echo was impressed by Szoboszlai’s “excellent tracking and pressing”, which also provided “energy to the midfielder’s right”.

Ryan Gravenberch (7.18) was a class act in midfield, with This is AnfieldHenry Jackson called him an “aesthetically pleasing player” who “radiated class.”

Ian Doyle highlighted “two good interceptions” in the first half from the Dutchman, who was an important presence for the defence.

But unfortunately it was another bad night for Alexander Isak (4.63)with Mark Doyle only giving him a score of three out of 10 – by far the lowest of the evening!

What the statistics say

Szoboszla (7.9) also received the highest rating from FotMob – the man can do no wrong right now!

Liverpool’s number 8 won his only aerial duel at the San Siro, completing 86 percent of his passes (42/49) and creating the most chances (two) of any Liverpool player.

Virgil van Dijk led the troops impressively all evening, making the most defensive contributions (nine) and clearances (five).

Ibrahima Konate also deserves credit for a much better performance, with the Frenchman and Van Dijk jointly scoring the most headers (three), along with Alessandro Bastoni.

Isak’s lack of impact was highlighted by his having just 25 touches – the fewest of any Liverpool player – and winning just two of six ground matches. Liverpool desperately need him to recover quickly.

However, Florian Wirtz did well from the substitutes bench: he won both his duels, completed his only dribble, won a penalty and equaled Isak’s ball in 22 minutes.
