Nowadays, Stallone has earned the right to be called in addition to the elite of Hollywood and is a go-to man if you want your project to be a success. With several films that have produced continues Rocky, Rambo, And The vast devices, This writer, actor and director has proven time and time again to be a bankable raw material for celluloid.
Yet during his interview of 16 September 2025 on The Tonight Show, Sly shared that one of his first strange jobs was in New York to clean up the lion cages in the zoo. He also illustrated his modest beginning and brought that, while working on a deli counter, he received a staff allowance of three and a half grams of pastrami to eat, per day. Of course our hero would pack much more protein to play the iconic Rocky Balboa, and he used his recent appearance in the talk show to promote an exciting new book, entitled: The steps – a memoir. But although the story of Sly’s unlikely path to star row and the creation of one of the largest underdog stories of all time will not be released until May 2026, the screen legend shared that his first steps in the steps resulted in failure.

“When I arrived in Philadelphia and did the film Rocky, I didn’t even think about the steps,” Stallone said in conversation with Jimmy Fallon. “We had no money to shoot there, we had no license,” the actor added. The long series of steps that Sly’s eye attracted led to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Nowadays there is a statue of the Italian stallion at the foot of those steps, but before the release of the low-budget boxing film in 1977, Stallone did not have the kind of influence that he now likes. “I just get out of the car (I said) just let me get up the stairs, get a shot and we will leave here before the police arrive.”
In that first version, Stallone says that he made an embarrassing mistake when he decided it would be a good idea to wear his beloved dog, butkus, those elevated steps. “My dog is a buffalo,” the Rocky Star recalls. “It is a bullmastiff of 130 pounds, I got halfway and my knees nodded, I go like,” dog … out. ” With butkus exiled to the steps of the car, Stallone completed its scenes. The film continued with Bag Stallone a best actor -nomination at the Oscar’s and Rocky won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1977, a total of six films plus three Religious spin-offs (and counting).
“Anyway, we did it, and it became a very famous scene, but I also thought it was a great name for a biography about the steps you make in your life, to arrive.” Stallone told Fallon. “Because guys, believe me, I had zero. It is as I said, I worked in a lion cage, a deli, I was a usher for a year.”
With his characteristic tendency for motivating speeches, SLY further explained how winning is done. “Will I win, or will life win?” Stallone told the audience that he had to wonder. “It’s a fight. It’s a punchout, and it’s not easy, because you are always under the gun, nobody is really for it, but it’s the fight that you put where you want to go.”
