Iga Swiatek arrives at the US Open with her sights on a seventh Grand Slam title and a potential return to world number one to limit what she calls a remarkable year of redemption after “the worst experience of my life”.
The 24-year-old Polish world number two has passed a roller coaster 2025 campaign that began under the shadow of a doping ban, but was transformed by her amazing breakthrough of Wimbledon.
The journey from Swiatek to Flushing Meadows has been anything but slippery.
After her exit at the US Open from last year against Jessica Pegula in the quarters, she was affected with a prohibition of a month after an unintended doping violation linked to contaminated sleep medication.
She wanted to regain her condition, started the year with promise, but quickly came across turbulence.
She tumbled from the semi -final in the Australian Open for Madison Keys, in Indian Wells to Mirra Andreeva and open for the French for World number one Aryna Sabalenka – a fourth consecutive Roland Garros Crown fails.
But the SWIATEK comeback story started in July in Wimbledon, where she supplied one of the most dominant Grand Slam last versions in recent memory.
She destroyed Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0 to claim her first Grascourt Major with an impressive ‘double bagel’, the first in a large title conflict since 1988.
The victory also made her the eighth woman in the open era to win large singles titles on all three surfaces.
Swiatek maintained that momentum by claiming her first Cincinnati open title on Monday and beat Jasmine Paolini 7-5 6-4 without dropping a set in the tournament.
“I am happy with the work we have done and the process. I am a good player. I can play on any surface,” she said after securing her 11th WTA 1000 title, only in the second place of Serena Williams 23.
After having won the US Open in 2022, Swiatek returns to New York with her confidence restored and her powerful foundations were prepared for a new attack on American hard courts.
