Processed foods have been taxed as feeding the American obesity epidemic.
But it turns out that a small ingredient could actually have the same effect as Ozempic when it comes to losing weight.
Allulose-faded ‘The most lifetime-friendly sweetener’ is a low-calorie sweetener that tastes like sugar but has a fraction of the calories.
Researchers have discovered that it causes the production of hormones in the intestine that mislead the brain by thinking that it is full the same way as GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic.
Dr. Daniel Atkinson, a general practitioner and clinical leading role at TeleHealth Company, told the Daily Mail Allulose Works ‘something else’.
He said: ‘Injections of weight loss such as Ozempic work by simulating the effects of GLP-1. Allulose seems to increase [natural] GLP-1 levels, which can help you feel less hungry and therefore consume fewer calories. ‘
He added that early studies ‘show positive signs’ that allulose can be used in the future as a tool for weight loss.
It is naturally found in fruit such as figs and raisins, but is artificially added to much more processed foods, such as Quest Protein Bars, Chobani Yogurt, Magic Spoon -Breakfast grains and Atkins Caramel Almond Snacks.
Allulose is available as an independent sweetener that has the same taste and texture as a regular table sugar

It’s in the popular Yogurt brand Chobani
Dr. Michael Aziz, a doctor of a long lifespan of the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, said the Daily Mail that although some sugar substitutes are linked to weight gain, allulose is different because it has a low glycemic index, which means it has no blood sugar level.
Repeated and frequent blood sugar peaks can lead to inflammation, the damage of blood vessels and increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Although many sugar substitutes usually have no influence on blood sugar levels, ordinary tables sugar does.
A study from 2018 showed that giving mice allulose caused them to eat less and increases the amount of ‘fullness of hormone’ GLP-1.
The team of researchers from Japan concluded: ‘Identify our results [allulose] As a prominent GLP-1 release that acts … to limit food and … Arithmic corrects too much food, obesity and diabetes. ‘
Researchers said the results were promising because GLP-1 drugs cause negative side effects such as nausea and vomiting, while people who consume allulose did not experience unwanted results.
A separate study from 2018 in adults with overweight and obese adults discovered that 14 grams of allulose per day was associated with a reduction in body mass -index, body fat percentage and total fat mass, in particular of belly fat, which is the most dangerous type of health.
These changes even took place without other diet or training interventions.
Longevity Biohacker Bryan Johnson – who is 47 but claims to have the body of a man of in its thirty – praised the low calories -more allulose as ‘perhaps the most long -term – friendly sweetener’ and has included the ingredient in the products he sells online through his company BluePrint.
GLP-1 stands for Glucagon-like Peptide-1. It is a natural hormone produced in the intestine in response to food that regulates blood sugar and appetite.
Weight loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy mimic GLP-1 and help the body slow down digestion.
This ensures that people feel fuller longer, which reduces the amount of food they eat and helps them lose weight.

A smaller study of 13 adults saw an increased metabolism – and potential fat burning – when they consumed 5 grams of allulose for a meal.
Concern about allulose comes from its potential gastrointestinal effects, such as bloated feeling, gas and diarrhea – although these are only a concern when the sweetener is consumed in large quantities.
A study from 2018 with 30 people determined that allulose was well tolerated without digestive problems for an amount of up to 63 grams per day for a person with an average weight (around 150 pounds or 70 kg).
In 2024, 40 percent of Americans were classified as obese – and although that number has fallen somewhat from 42 percent in the last three years, the Obesity epidemic still leads to a large number of other health problems, including diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
However, experts expect a decrease in that pace thanks to the broad use of semaglutide – the active medicine in Ozempic and similar medicines.

Allulose is available as an independent who has the same taste and texture as normal tables sugar. Of course it is found in fruit such as figs and raisins, but it is available on a large scale in popular snack products
An estimated 13 percent of adults – or 33 million people – have once tried at least one of these medicines.
Researchers of the treasures treated that by the beginning of 2026 at least 2.86 million Americans will actively use a weight loss drug (either Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound or Mounjaro).
Despite the breakthrough in obesity medicines, these drugs are expensive and are associated with unwanted side effects where many patients complain about nausea, vomiting and constipation.
In more serious cases, patients have said they have suffered from pancreatitis – inflammation of the pancreas – stomach paralysis and even blindness.
Different dead were also reported to people who used the medicine, although it was not clear whether the medicine led to the fatality directly.
