Former no. 3-ranged Elina Svitolina said she will end her tennis season early because she is “not in the right emotional space”.
“I didn’t feel like myself lately,” Svitolina said in one Social Media Post on Instagram It was followed by a statement on the WTA Tour website. “I don’t feel ready to play, so that’s why I end my season here.”
Svitolina, now arranged 13th, said she needed time to rest and charge.
“If I am a step back on the field,” she said, “I want to fight with everything I have and my best on the field for the fans, for the game and for myself.”
Svitolina had a strong 2025 and ended with a record of 35-14 and one title, the WTA 250 Clay tournament in Rouen, France in April. She also had quarter -final impressions with the Australian and French OpenS.
But after reaching the quarterfinals in Montreal, she lost her first game in Cincinnati and her first round game at the US Open.
After her loss against Naomi Osaka in Montreal, Svitolina spoke about hateful online abuse of frustrated gamblers.
Last week, Svitolina Ukraine helped to lead the semi -final of the Billie Jean King Cup in China before he lost Jasmine Paolini in Italy.
The 31-year-old Svitolina married the French veteran Gael Monfils in 2021 and they have a daughter, Skai, who was born in 2022.
Colleague player Beatriz Haddad Maia also said that she needs a longer period of rest and will end her 2025 season.
“I post this to share with you that I close my season 2025 a bit ahead of schedule, so that I can let my body and mind rest for a longer period,” said the Brazilian player. “… Rest assured that I will come back stronger and the best is yet to come!”
