A result of the Rejig is that cars, which were previously taxed at 28% with extra compensation -cess ranging from 1% to 22%, are now placed in 18% or 40% without any stop.
According to the new rates, small cars are loaded 18% (gasoline/LPG/CNG under 1,200 cc and sub-4 meters in length; diesel up to 1500 cc) and 40% for larger or luxury vehicles, to replace the previous 28% plus cess tax screens.
Following the new policy, several large car manufacturers, including Tata, Hyundai, Honda, Skoda, Mahindra and Toyota, have announced considerable price reductions, extending the benefits of reforms to their customers.
