Surrey Win English Women’s County Finals – Golf News | Golf magazine

Surrey was crowned for the 10th time until 2025 Women’s County Champions and only since 2021, after winning all five games at Selby Golf Club

The Pinkies defeated Northumberland (5-0), Somerset (4-1), Lincolnshire (4-1) and Norfolk (4-1), before completing the beautiful sweep on the last day in a winner-all-match against Buckinghamshire.

The result feels extra sweet, because Nottinghamshire Surrey eliminated in last year’s competition, even though he was unbeaten.

“It feels pretty great,” said Surrey First Team captain Katie Laud. “I have been playing for Surrey for 21 years and I have never succeeded in winning a provincial final, so it is pretty great for me and I am proud of the team.

“We went undefeated last year and just lost, so to come back this year, you start undefeated and lift the trophy is extra special.

“We had a lot of motivation and our coach spent a lot of the year telling that we would reach the final and lift the trophy, so to actually do this is quite surprising.”

England Golf Girls’ Squad member Annabel Peeford and Issy Simpson were the standouts, all of whom won five of their competitions, with Peeford securing all five singles.

Simpson, who pursued the putt to guarantee the victory, in the meantime added four singles victories to her four partnership success with Holly Justice.

In the Foursomes, the partnership of Amelia Matthews and Lottie Woodham achieved maximum points with three wins of three.

“We had many girls at different times,” Laud added. “When I look back on the provincial week, we had players who got points to get here, but could not play because they are in America.

We are very happy in Surrey to have a lot of depth and half of our team are 16 and younger.

“We have an extremely hard -working junior committee and junior coaches, and I think it will be shown when we have won Junior County Week, won our second team, and now we have protected this trophy.”
