Former Team India Batter Suresh Raina has recently been opened on speculation about his return to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a coaching role for IPL 2026. Raina revealed that he had approached the Chennai franchise, but the decision cannot be unilaterally and would need agreement.
Michael Hussey has been CSK’s Batting Coach since 2018. Their batting unit struggled for consistency in the 2025 season. The five -time IPL champions ended for the first time at the bottom of the table. They signed Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis and Urvil Patel halfway through the tournament.

Suresh Raina had an illustrious IPL career. He made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2008. The Southpaw stayed at the franchise until 2015 before he had the now defeated Gujarat Lions, during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Raina returned to CSK in 2018 and stayed with the team until 2021.

The left-handed fittings scored 5,528 points in 205 IPL competitions with an average of 32.51 and a success rate of 136.73, including a century and 39 half center. He also took 25 wickets with an economy of 7.38.
For CSK he scored 4,687 points in 176 games at an average of 32.32 with a success rate of 136.93, including 33 fifty and a century. He was part of the four winning campaigns of the team in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

Suresh Raina spoke with Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel and confirmed that discussions had taken place between him and the franchise. He also expressed his willingness to work with his former IPL team.
“I don’t know about joining CSK’s coaching staff. I approached them and they also spoke with me. Let’s see how things are going. It can’t just depend on my wish; both parties must agree. I have given the franchise so much love, and if the chance comes, I will certainly try it. For now it is a deviation.”

Suresh Raina called Luckknow his home country and Delhi the place where he currently lives. He also mentioned Mumbai as a different possible destination. However, Raina emphasized that his emotional bond remains with the Chennai Super Kings, where his IPL trip started.
“If Mumbai calls Indians, I go there. Luckknow is also my home bus. I live in Delhi, so you can also ask it there. I have offers everywhere. But the place where it all started, the yellow love, will always stay. If they call me back in yellow, I will work in a yellow way.”

Raina became the first Indian to register for centuries in all three sizes. He struggled to strengthen his place in tests, but was stuck almost a decade in ODIs and T20is. Raina scored 7,988 runs in 322 international competitions, including seven centuries and 48 half centers.
