The entire NBA knows the Phoenix Suns would never trade Devin Booker, at least not unless he formally asked to be moved. But what about Dillon Brooks?
The 29-year-old has been a revelation in The Valley this season. His desire to win every regular season game is one of the reasons the Suns made it to the playoffs.
Brooks could become a trade target for contenders
But with the player’s appreciation perhaps at an all-time high, Brooks is also showing that he can be a team’s best player for short periods of time and still remain competitive, and so is interest in his services.
The NBA trade season has officially begun, and what if another franchise comes in with an offer for Brooks to owner Mat Ishbia that he can’t refuse? To be fair to Ishbia, he was optimistic about Brooks staying in The Valley for the rest of his life when the subject came up recently.

The Suns don’t have much draft capital, or a surplus of young players outside of Jalen Green currently on their books. Yes, Brooks raises the floor, he’s already proven he can do that.
But if the organization wants to raise the cap to keep Booker happy and back in contention in the coming years, they need to take any trade offer for Brooks seriously.
For those who think that will never happen, and that a contender wouldn’t part with a player or picks of equal value to what Brooks brought to Phoenix, you only have to look at the Oklahoma City Thunder. Three words that will haunt the Suns for a while.
They had the superstar in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the infrastructure set up through the draft and free agency to build a contender around him. Then they gave up one of the best young players in the league, Josh Giddey, for Alex Caruso, and that was the capstone.
You can’t tell us that Brooks couldn’t have a Caruso-style impact for a contender, and if a team is desperate enough, you’d be surprised what they’d be willing to give up.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, this just goes to show how quickly Brooks has helped change the perception in Phoenix. In reality, he’s been doing this since his tenure in Houston and Memphis.
The Suns don’t have to say yes to any potential trades either, but their resolve could be tested by a Giddey-like deal that no one seems to be coming up with. A good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless.
