Suns guard is surprisingly not with the team as he may never play for Phoenix

The Phoenix Suns added two players at the trade deadline: Amir Coffey and Cole Anthony, saving them some money.

While neither new signing is likely to be a long-term solution at The Valley, Coffey will at least get a chance to show what he can do in the coming weeks.

Anthony is currently not with the Suns team

The same cannot be said for point guard Anthony, who it was revealed prior to the game with the Philadelphia 76ers that he is not currently with the team.

This rightly fueled rumors that he would be relinquished, and it’s hard to imagine that this is best for both parties. This could even have been agreed prior to the transaction.

The Suns themselves unwittingly gave us a glimpse of their thoughts on the matter on social media when they posted a message welcoming Coffey to Phoenix.

Except they didn’t say anything about Anthony, which is a strong indication that he may never make it to The Valley to connect with his new teammates.

Additionally, this trade deadline seemed like a great way to get two-way guard Jamaree Bouyea converted to a full contract since he only has a few games left with the main roster.

Not only was he the big winner at the deadline in Phoenix, he’s also part of a point guard rotation that head coach Jordan Ott doesn’t want to mess with.

For all the hop he possesses and the great teammate energy he gives off, Orlando Magic fans hated to see him go for that reason and to be honest they haven’t been the same since, he’s just not a coach-Ott type of guard.

There’s an unpredictability to his offensive game that can range from inspired to baffling, and the Suns already have Dillon Brooks on the roster to create some chaos.

For all his willingness, he’s just not as good defensively as Bouyea or Jordan Goodwin, while he doesn’t have the all-around game (and, frankly, unexpected three-point shooting percentage) of Collin Gillespie.

So moving to another franchise that can make itself believe it can make a difference seems like the logical next step here, as Coffey steps in for the injured Grayson Allen.

Bouyea will then join the team permanently, and if they can get Devin Booker and Jalen Green back soon, they will be in full force for the postseason. As you can see, Anthony doesn’t appear in that.
