It is fair to say that so far proponents of NUFC women have had deal from summer trade and news. The men’s side seems to be arranged with problems where this excellent blog site has discussed great and worth seeing details.

Whatever happens with Isak and the Transfersaga and whoever comes in late has not been beautiful and has been very frustrating to say the least. What concerns welding? Well, everything seemed to go swimming. Excellent new signs are announced and many season tickets are sold. Then, scared!

On the day the Women’s Super League 2 matches were released and fans looked forward to delicious derby’s and large promotional games, the announcement about the home location of this season that the loyal fan base has shocked to say the least.

Newcastle United Women are starting a new chapter in Gateeshead International Stadium this summer, gaining access to a natural lawn that meets the Super League rules for women.

The side of Becky Laney goes to the upcoming 2025/26 campaign with the aim of reaching promotion of WSL2, for which there should be a transfer of the artificial surface that is currently present in Kingston Park.

To guarantee the compliance of the competition and to support improved performance, the club must play on grass and thus carry out an extensive assessment of available options that would guarantee access to a grass surface in addition to suitable facilities for players, staff and supporters.

With the installation of a natural lawn in Kingston Park – the home base of Premiership Rugby Side Newcastle Falcons – not possible in the near future, Newcastle United women had the opportunity to make a permanent movement this summer and future compliance with WSL regulations.

Gateshead International Stadium is managed by GLL in collaboration with Gateeshead Council and is the home of Gateshead Football Club.

As part of the move, Newcastle United Women will invest in an elite play area and improved facilities. The WSL2 matches of the Club 2025/26 were released on Friday, July 25 and further information for supporters and seasonal card holders can be found here.

Su Cumming, head of women’s football in Newcastle United, said: “This is an exciting new chapter in the history of Newcastle United Women.

“The club has achieved incredible growth and success in recent years and we enable these important building blocks to continue our exciting journey. We are of course sad to leave Kingston Park, where we have built so many memories, as well as a training basis as a home stadium.”

“We respect the needs of Newcastle Falcons, and we thank everyone in the club for their support, but this is the right time to make the move while we pursue a place in the WSL.”

“We are committed to working with our great supporters on the road and hope that as many people as possible can make the short journey with us to our new house. I also want to expand gratitude to GLL, Gateshead Council and Gateshead Football Club.”

“We are enthusiastic about the future and look forward to working with them.”

What the reasons and reading between the lines and seeing fans comments, there seems to be more to this than to be. We know that Red Bull Kingston Park and the Falcons bought and was not planning to change the facilities soon.

But NUFC women are not promoted, nor can they assume that they will be. They have built up a beautiful home support in Kingston Park and the fans love the ‘family’ type atmosphere and proximity of the location.

Gateeshead International Stadium is seen by many as soulless and not the same report can be achieved somewhere. Time will tell about that, but one thing is clear. The announcement came out of nowhere and has thrown many fan’s preparation for the new season in disorder and confusion.

It is reported that many those who have bought season tickets can be canceled and although some are in favor of the move to GIS, the vast majority are not and shocked that the club can go for Kingston Park through the preseason and summer plans and then suddenly change.

For me it shows again that, regardless of how we love NUFC and whether it is the women’s or men’s side that we support or even both a business and business decisions, development and issues will always come first.

Maybe that is as it should be. Who knows? What we do know and whatever the reasons are there is that you see Kingston Park, Hello Gateshead International Stadium.
