The Indiana Thoroughbred Alliance (ITA) is proud to offer subsidies for Indiana Thoroughbred Horse Racing Farms and facilities to shed light on the importance of horse races in Indiana and the industry of $ 2 billion dollars that benefit the Hoosier State.
The “Indiana Equine Connection Grant” is offered to help farms planning to organize an open house in the community. The aim of organizing an open house is to invite families, business owners and community leaders through the farm gates and in the barn, so that they can learn more about what that specific farm does and how horse races and agriculture benefit the Indiana economy.
“We tried to think of ways to promote the horse racing industry and the men and women who make them their means,” says Megan Arszman, marketing consultant for the ITA. “The best way to do that is through marketing of Grassroots. Show your local community how you have an impact on them and invite legislators and community leaders to hear that you are more than just a large building on a set of country.”
Indiana Thoroughbred Farms are invited to apply for the $ 1,000 subsidy to host an open house somewhere in 2025. A few different criteria must be met to reward the subsidy:
1) The Open House must have a kind of educational component (ie teaching about aftercare and rehabilitation, leading a seminar on the maintenance of meadows, etc.).

2) The farm must do its own promotion of the Open House, with the help of the Outreach Committee of the ITA.
The subsidy can be used to hire entertainment or food trucks, pay for marketing or promotional material or to help compensate for the costs of presenters.
“We have discussed it for a while to do things like this, and we saw the success that the Indiana Standardbred Association had invited earlier this summer to invite legislators to Crimson Lane Farm,” says Christine Cagle, member of the ITA Outreach Committee. “We know how important horse races is for the economy in Indiana. We know how important it is for us, but do your neighbors understand? Do your city council even where the nearest race track is? This is a way to do that at a better level for our members.”
If you and your farm are interested in applying for the Indiana Equine Connection Grant, please contact Cagle on carrolltc2@gmail.com.
