Subaru Guts the 2026 Impreza Line -Up (probably a good call)

The Subaru Impreza Hatchback is one of the longest-running names of the brand, and for this year there are a few small tweaks after the recent refresh from 2024, that new technology, appearance and a sporty RS trim designed designed designed to fit under the famous Impreza-WRX. This year there are a few remarkable adjustments to both the Impreza itself and the trim structure. The 2026 Impreza is a trim

Subaru did not explain why the automaker chose to cancel the trim, but we suspect that this is due to a bad sale for the basic model. Anyway, that leaves only two decorations in the line -up for this year: the sport and the RS. The automaker says that the engine is now more more responsive, where the torque is available lower in the speed range. To be honest, that’s what the Impreza needed. We doubt whether the two horsepower will be felt, but a little more urgency of the 2.0-liter will be a welcome change. As always, four -wheel drive is standard.

The RS trim brings the heat (but not too much)

The RS trim, introduced before 2024, remains largely the same, although the 2.5-liter boxer also makes fewer PKs as a result of the same game. Subaru says that the engine produces 180 hp and 178 LB-FT torque, and again, that torque must be lower in the speed range available as a result of the adjustments to the powertrain. In addition to more power, RS models also benefit from more standard equipment, such as heated seats and unique badges, compared to the Impreza Sport.

Functions and technology remain familiar

Just like last year, Subaru’s Impreza can be obtained with an 11.6-inch vertical display. We suspect that this will soon be phased out in the coming years, because the outback has just introduced a new horizontally oriented screen and climate setup. Both sports and RS decorations are supplied with wireless telephone connectivity, and you will find a few USB ports inside, as well as a wireless charging cushion. The hatch also contains some driver aids thanks to the standard safety system of the vision, such as adaptive cruise control, lane help and various forms of software for avoiding collisions.

A new doll in color

A few new aesthetic choices were made before 2026. The automaker has added a New-to-the-Impresa Citron Yellow Pearl Paint to the line-up, available for an extra (and very reasonable) $ 395. Subaru has previously made the color available on Crosstrek models. In addition to the new shadow, there is some contrast to go with it in the form of black rear bathing for both equipment levels.

The decision of Subaru to subtract horse power and attach to the setup is the right one. The Impreza does not have to be fast, but it must be given a reasonable speed relatively quickly.
