Some high -profile cable tree races have been added to this year’s Blue September selection.
This is the fifth year of Harness Racing’s involvement of New Zealand in the annual New Zealand Prostate Cancer Foundation campaign.
Last year, more than $ 40,000 was collected and although the money is urgently needed for research, the campaign also focuses on increasing the consciousness of prostate cancer and encouraging men to be tested early.
The Blue September campaign from 2025 will return the return of the ambassadors of last year, Blair Orange, Tony Cameron, Brothers Matty and Nathan Williamson, Robbie Close, Sam Thornley, Jonny Cox and Rory Mcilwrick.
And there are three newcomers. Leading driver John Dunn, the second most successful driver in the country behind Blair Orange last year, joins the business, just like Top Noord -Reinsman Josh Dickie and Blair’s son Harrison Orange, who has imposed a huge impression in the Junior Rangen in recent years.
“It is really a top line-up of drivers that we hope will win a lot of races and raise a lot of money,” says HRNZ’s Blue September coordinator Courtney Buchanan, “We have covered the entire country from Auckland to Invercargill and the first father-son Combo is.”
“We would be pretty sure that we can match or even surpass the total of last year.”
Money is collected every time one of the Blue September ambassadors wins a race during the month, with contributions from HRNZ ($ 100 per victory), clubs and the individual sponsors of the drivers. Blair Orange was the leading fundraiser last year with 24 wins and $ 8200.
“We will have a special launch on 1 September to kick things off and there will be a few surprises along the way to keep it interesting,” says Buchanan.
