Storm rises: Hunter Verbijsts Siniakova in successful singles returns

Storm Hunter has organized a considerable upset in her return to Singles competition at the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, with the Australian who deeply dig to defeat world no. 78 Katerina Siniakova.

Hunter, who is outside the world’s top 1000 in singles while she continues a comeback of injury, fought for just under two and a half hours to take the 7-6 (4) 4-6 6-3 victory.

It marks Hunter’s first victory in a completed match against a top 100-opponent since March 2024, when she dedicated Alize Cornet in a successful qualifying campaign in Miami.

Hunter was then set aside for the best part of a year after the tearing of her Achilles -Tendon at the Billie Jean King Cup -similar game in April 2024.

The 31-year-old Hunter, a former Doubles World No.1, disputed her first WTA tournament next to the American Caroline Dolehide in Austin in March of this year.

This season she has only disputed a handful of singles tournaments. Hunter has recorded the most recently back-to-back in a WTA main draw as a qualification match at Australian Open 2024.

The 31-year-old LEFTHANDER, a wildcard receiver in Guadalajara, will strive to maintain her winning momentum when she is standing against 86th ranked Colombian Emiliana Arango.

Hunter’s Doubles campaign, in which she ended in the first round in combination with America’s Desirae Krawczyk, with a loss for top seeds Irina Kromacheva and Nicole Melichar-Martinez.
