Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher has done just that supported Teddy Sharman-Lowe despite dropping him against Doncaster Rovers.
Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher has backed the on-loan shot-stopper Teddy Sharman-Loweeven though he made the decision to replace him with Tyler Miller against his old club Doncaster Rovers.
The BWFC manager admitted it was a big decision but believes the 22-year-old will benefit from it after a number of mistakes in previous games.
“I just felt like this was the right decision. I’ve had a few thoughts lately, there’s a few too many mistakes from Ted, and he’ll probably get better from this,” Schumacher said The Bolton News.
“This might be the best thing for him in the long run. When I signed Tyler (Miller), he said to me, ‘Am I going to get a chance to play?’ I said, Well, if I think the situation requires it, then I have no hesitation in putting you in it.”
“I have no doubt about it because I think he is capable. The opportunity was there and I think he played very well today. He made some big, important saves.”
Miller performed well in the match as Bolton Wanderers left South Yorkshire with a point.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe’s long term in the Bolton Wanderers team
Prior to the switch, Sharman-Lowe made 22 consecutive appearances for Bolton Wanderers in League One. In that time he amassed 1,980 minutes of football, a figure only surpassed by Max Conway in the BWFC squad.
The Chelsea loanee was thrown into Schumacher’s team at the deep end when Nathan Baxter and Luke Southwood left the squad, meaning that when the 22-year-old joined the club he was the only senior goalkeeper.

BWFC have since added more options and Schumacher has maintained confidence despite Sharman-Lowe being in down form. According to to electOf the 21 goals the keeper has conceded, he has prevented a negative 1.4 goals, which puts him 22nd out of the 28 goalkeepers in League One who have played more than 750 minutes.
The Bolton Wanderers boss had not yet decided who will start against Northampton Town on Sunday, but with Miller’s strong performance it will not be an easy return for the young shot-stopper.
Bolton Wanderers’ crucial January
Apart from Bolton Wanderer’s goalkeeping problems, the team has fallen off form at the worst possible time. As they head into January, they are clinging to a play-off position after two wins in their last five. Wins are needed to keep them in the promotion hunt.
BWFC host Northampton Town this weekend in what looks like a must-win match before heading to Peterborough United.
Then it’s a home game against the still managerless Port Vale, before the local derby at Wigan Athletic.
Perhaps the biggest game of the month in terms of league placement follows a trip to Stevenage that could make or break the month for Bolton Wanderers.
The team then has two home games in a row against Leyton Orient and Burton Albion. No fewer than the maximum number of points are likely to be accepted if Bolton Wanderers are really serious about promotion this season.
