Steven Gerrard has said he would like to go ‘toe to toe’ with Jude Bellingham when discussing the best midfielders in the current game.
The former Liverpool and England captain was asked which current players he admires, and named two current Three Lions stars among the best at the moment.
Gerrard discussed his admiration for Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and praised the 26-year-old for going to the ‘next level’ since his high-profile move to north London.
He also praised Bellingham and admitted that a clash with the Real Madrid midfielder would be one he would have enjoyed.
“I think Declan Rice is a very good midfielder. I like him a lot,” he told Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“I like the boy, I like his mentality, I like the way he has gone to the next level at Arsenal. He adds different things to his game. I think he would be a very tough, strong opponent. Good challenge.”
“Jude Bellingham. If he was in the Premier League I would be happy to agree with him. I really think that would be interesting and good. They are the two best at the moment.”
