Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard recently made waves by praising a Manchester United legend, calling him “hands down the best player” he ever played with.
Gerrard’s praise, coming from one of England’s most decorated midfielders, carries weight.
The player he mentioned is former Man United striker Wayne Rooney, with whom Gerrard played for the England national team.

“Wayne Rooney is without a doubt the best player I have played with for England. He can do so many things… I don’t see Wayne as a number 9 or a number 10; I see him as an all-round striker. He could single-handedly occupy the back four.”

Rooney was an all-round striker, as Gerrard said. The former United star could attack, play in midfield and also perform defensive duties.
He is perhaps the most versatile player to play for England or in the Premier League in recent memory.
Rooney scored 53 goals in 120 appearances for his country, which is very impressive.
When someone like Gerrard, even though he played for United’s biggest rivals Liverpool, praises you, it shows the respect and admiration you have among your former colleagues.
