Steady goal for the Middle East: nuanced reporting with regional team – Talking Biz News

Carla Sertin, the head of editorial content at Wired Middle East, writes about what the coverage strategy will be. (Wired Middle East has joined Condé Nast’s portfolio operations in the region, having been operated by a licensee for the past six years.)

Sertin writes: “That’s why we’ve built a network of journalists across the region, providing on-the-ground reporting by people who understand what matters in their country today and what will matter tomorrow. Rather than parachuting journalists into the Middle East, an experienced regional team allows us to provide more nuanced, accurate and relevant reporting that reflects the complexities of life here. Our local reporting means we have access to people affected by Egyptian telephone taxwhich is stifling digital access across the country, as well as the women who use technology to achieve it escape domestic violence.

“It’s just as important to know what questions to ask. My team asks tough questions of technology leaders in service of building a better future, at a time when there are more questions than answers.

“My goal is for innovators, technologists and forward thinkers to visit WIRED Middle East and not only leave informed, but inspired to solve the world’s biggest challenges; to build, to question assumptions and to participate more actively and thoughtfully in the future being created around them.”
