Sheffield United have a number of first-team players nearing the end of their contracts in 2026 and their situation needs to be addressed.
Sheffield United have seen mixed results in decisions regarding players on expiring contracts in recent years. However, only striker Rhian Brewster left for free this summer he cost SUFC £23.5 million in 2020.
In the summer of 2024, eleven senior players left the club following the expiry of their contracts, although most of the group had been with the club for a number of years.
However, as we head into the 2025/2026 season, there remain a handful of SUFC players who will see their contracts expire next summer. The Blades will now have to make decisions on each player’s future with January on the horizon.
Here we look at every Sheffield United player without a contract in 2026 and answer the question: stay or go?
Tom Davis
Former Everton midfielder Tom Davies has been a Sheffield United player since 2023 signed a three-year contract after his departure from Toffees.
He joined the Blades on a free transfer, the only transfer of his career to date, after playing for his boyhood club Everton since the age of 11.
Injuries have hampered his SUFC career and he has made just 27 appearances for the club so far. Subsequently, there is a good chance that his stay in South Yorkshire will come to an end when his contract at Bramall Lane expires.
Verdict: go
Danny Ings
Experienced striker Danny Ings dropped back to the Championship for the first time in more than a decade and joined Sheffield United on a free transfer this summer.
The 33-year-old has scored 72 goals in 240 Premier League appearances with Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham.
Danny Ings’ career statistics – Via Transfer market
So far, Ings has played just 45 minutes of action in a Blades shirt, but with a 12-month extension option in his contract he is likely to remain at the club.
Verdict: stay
Ben Mee
Another experienced Premier League player, through centre-back Ben Mee, joined SUFC this summer, signing a one-year contract.
Since arriving on deadline day, Mee has started the Blades’ last three games in the Championship under new boss Chris Wilder.
Like Ings, the 36-year-old has a 12-month extension option in his contract with Sheffield United, which is likely to come into effect.
Verdict: stay
Adam Davis
Welsh goalkeeper Adam Davies is now in his fourth season at Sheffield United, but the former Barnsley and Stoke City shot-stopper has made just 17 appearances for SUFC.
Since his arrival, Davies has been a real backup, although he signed new terms in 2024, extending his stay until the summer of 2026.
Despite his lack of minutes, the 33-year-old could see his stay extended for another year.
Verdict: stay
