Starlink India Price: Elon Musk’s Big Gamble! You can get satellite internet for Rs 2500, know when it will be launched

There is big news for the people in India waiting for Elon Musk’s ‘Starlink’ internet service. Earlier it was discussed that the price would be around Rs 8,000, but now it has come to light that Musk will launch it at a much cheaper price considering India’s ‘price-conscious’ market.

According to reports, Starlink’s monthly subscription could be between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,500. Even though it is more expensive than Jio and Airtel Fiber, it will prove to be a boon for those remote places where mobile towers or cables cannot reach. Let us know when the service starts and what the company’s full plan is.

Let us tell you that Starlink had earlier mistakenly displayed a monthly price of Rs 8,600 on its website, which was later removed citing a technical error. Industry experts felt that price was too high for a market like India.

License and launch status

The company has already obtained the required GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite) license for retail satellite services.

Other rights: It also has a VSAT license and clearance for flight and maritime connectivity.

According to the source, Starlink will only announce official prices after it receives full regulatory clearance and spectrum allocation from DoT (Department of Telecommunications).

Will it compete with Jio and Airtel?

Industry experts believe that satellite communications will be a complementary service rather than a disruptive force for traditional telecom companies. The main reason for this is the huge price difference in broadband services.

According to JM Financial, while Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel offer basic fiber and fixed wireless services for Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per month, Starlink is expected to cost three to five times more.

strategy for India

An industry expert suggests that Starlink’s initial strategy for India focuses on establishing a presence rather than immediate profitability.

Coverage: The 4G, 5G and FWA coverage in India is over 90%, which is very different from the US (where 20-25% of the area has no connectivity). That is why Starlink will focus on those inaccessible areas where there is no internet yet.

Leadership: Operations and government relations in India will be overseen by Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s vice president.
