This Thursday, Delhi Golf Club will see a host of global stars and the cream of Indian talent in action during the DP World India Championship (DPWIC).

On Monday, the capital formally welcomed world number two, Grand Slam winner and Ryder Cup hero Rory McIlroy, who will headline the $4 million event.

The five-time major champions will include fellow Ryder Cup winners Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland, alongside their captain, Luke Donald.

After his previous foray into sharp territory at the International Series DLF in February, Anirban Lahiri returns to lead a parade of Indian stars at the DGC, the venue of his last international title, in 2015.

Adding even more glitz to the field are former Open champion Brian Harman and Ben Griffin, two-time PGA Tour winner and members of the US Ryder Cup team.

Besides Lahiri, the current crop of Indian stars includes Shubhankar Sharma, Veer Ahlawat, Yuvraj Sandhu and Arjun Prasad.

Preparing

Meanwhile, the DGC was a hive of activity on Monday as preparations were finalized for the richest professional event on Indian soil.

Arrangements are being made between the club and the DP World Tour to get in touch with the large number of fans expected during the four days of competition.

In addition to a fan zone and food village, the venue promises plenty of golf and entertainment, including an interactive Spectator Village, sponsor tents and outdoor picnic-style seating equipped with large LED screens to follow the tournament.

Golf enthusiasts can test their skills in the DP World Area with golf simulators and interactive challenges inspired by the championship.
