The St. Louis Blues are willing to make more moves for the right price

NHLRumors.com Transcripts

Steve Kouleas: “The Blues trade isn’t sexy today (Wednesday) with the Devils for Nick Bjugstad, but what it might be a signal of what we knew was coming, and you talked about bigger names disappearing, we could see a scenario where it’s a fire sale per se because it’s tied to the changing of the GM guard in St. Louis, and that (Robert) Thomas, (Colton) Parayko and (Jordan) Binnington are all gone as well could be, my friend, what do you think?

NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks and a Top NHL Trade Watch List

Dave Pagnotta: “I think this is the first bigger move. The Blues made a few small trades earlier this season, but this is the first one that will hopefully put in place the first domino that fell, so they got him out. He has one year left on his contract for $1.75 million.”

It’s just an indication that the Blues are willing to listen to a variety of players, including guys with good terms, and we know that. Justin Faulk And Brayden Schenn have one year left on their respective contracts. 15 team no-trade list on both, which they’ve been listening to for a while. They stand on others.

Almost everyone, 25 and under, will at least stick around. At least that’s the plan. Everyone else is willing to listen further. Now that’s said, Jordan Kyroufor example, the price is significantly higher than Schenn’s, and Robert Thomas is amplified so much more.

They’re willing to listen to Robert Thomas, and they’ve made that known to a few teams, but if you just want to have a conversation about it, you have to come to the table with a pretty significant return.

You’re talking about someone who won’t be Doug Armstrong. Hang up on him or throw his phone across the room and waste his time. This is a scenario where, hey, we’ll listen, but you have to give us or give us a reason to listen and pay attention.

So available with an asterisk because it would take a significant return for them to even consider that, but they are open to that possibility. With the first move here, Bjugstad heading to New Jersey certainly opens things up, and it’s just a reminder to some other teams that this club is significantly open for business.

NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues and Robert Thomas
