Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Julian Wood and Rene Ferdinands as the Batting Coach and Spin Bowling coach of the men’s team, respectively. The two will replace Thilina Kandamby and Piyal Fenschinge in their respective roles.
While Kandamby had fulfilled the role of Batting Coach since December 2023, the Senetunge was the spider bowling coach since February 2006. Fatunge had been a large part in feeding many talented spinners who have played for the Lankans over the years.
It is understood that SLC has devised a decision to make changes to the coaching staff after the defeat of Sri Lanka T20i Series in Bangladesh earlier in the year at home.
Wood has been given a one -year contract. According to Espncricinfo, Wood impressed SLC earlier this year during his “Power-Hitting program” of a week with Sri Lanka players. This year he had also coached the Bangladesh team as a battle coach for a short -term contract.
“He [Wood] Brings a wealth of experience after he has previously worked with the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Gloucestershire CCC, Hampshire CCC, Middlesex CCC and IPL Franchise Punjab Kings, among other things, a SLC release.
In the meantime, Ferdinands will be in the role for a few years. He is expected to “lead” spin -bowling training, match preparation, performance analysis and player development.

There is no cricket campaign for Sri Lanka In October. Their next assignment is a tour of Pakistan in which they will play three odis. The next series will be a T20i Tri series in which hosts Pakistan and Afghanistan are involved.
