The incident resulted in the state trooper being relieved of his duties to serve at the games.

Sports legends and enthusiasts joined the growing opposition against a state trooper who worked a Texas A&M game for berating and berating South Carolina players.

Many reported the officer’s intentions after images went viral of the white state trooper yelling at South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor, who is Black. According to Yahoo SportsPort scored a touchdown against Texas A&M in their Nov. 15 matchup. Although Texas A&M ultimately ended up with a win, the focus still remains on the officer’s treatment of the opposing team’s black players.

After the touchdown, Harbor went back into the tunnel. However, as he and other teammates started walking back to the field, the officer bumped past them and began angrily pointing his finger at the players for no apparent reason. The players appeared confused by the hard contact with the man, but moved away to continue the game.

As the incident made waves on social media, the internet began condemning the man for his own unnecessary roughness. James, a prominent figure in the sports world, called the officer’s action “premeditated” and “corny” [as f-ck].”

“That A&M cop needs to be suspended! That was premeditated and corny AF!!. He went out of his way to start some stuff. Do better man,” the NBA star shared.

In light of the issue, Texas A&M police announced that the state trooper would be “relieved of his game day assignment.” The Texas Department of Public Safety also added that the officials sent the game’s trooper home. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) will also reportedly investigate the matter further.

However, the altercation also concerns the treatment of young black men by law enforcement, even in the world’s largest fields. Although Texas authorities have not yet called the case racially motivated, the optics suggest that race may have played a factor in the state trooper’s disrespect toward the players.
