Sports Business Journal dedicates four articles to Special Olympics in one issue

Special Olympics CEO David Evangelista shakes hands with an athlete as he hands out a medal.

The five-page headline, cover piece delves into Evangelista’s vision as he steps into the role of CEO of Special Olympics. Sports Business Journal reported:

“In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, Evangelista will ensure that the movement’s mission of empowerment and opportunity reaches the global community. Special Olympics International has more than 400 employees.

“During his first 90 days, Evangelista said he will first focus on listening and learning from athletes, coaches, volunteers, families, sponsors and partners across regions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s strengths and challenges.”

In addition to the cover, the series contains three articles about:

  • The Special Olympics-Nike partnership supports the growth of coaches. Read here.
  • The power of Unified Sports® by bringing players with and without intellectual disabilities together in the same teams. Read here.
  • Special Olympics characterize events, global competitions and the strategies that drive the expansion of individual sporting events. Read here.

Special Olympics Vice President, International Media Relations and Communications Christy Weir has worked closely with Sports Business Journal over the years and is enthusiastic about their in-depth reporting.

“Media plays a powerful and crucial role in helping great stories reach their intended audiences. An organization can host its most successful event to date, but without a media presence and coverage, can it really be considered a success?”

She added: “It is rare for a media platform to focus extensively on the news of one brand, cause or organization. Today’s media landscape is a 24/7 operation, with journalists and media constantly competing to deliver news, bring in new advertisers and keep their readers engaged. I am grateful to Walter and the editors Sports business magazine to listening to my first pitch and hearing the bigger story – that Special Olympics is not a sporting event, but a global organization working every day around the world to change the way the world views sports and inclusivity. That is an ambitious goal, but one we are achieving thanks to the support of our partners and the leadership of our athletes.”
