Spanish boss De la Fuente shocked by Yamal procedure – Soccer News

Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente was shocked when Lamine Yamal had a procedure due to an ongoing injury without the knowledge of the national team.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Tuesday that Yamal had been released from the squad ahead of their upcoming matches against Georgia and Turkey.

Yamal has been battling nagging injuries all season, with the Barcelona teenage superstar currently dealing with a problem in his groin and pubic area.

An RFEF statement explained that Yamal, without the knowledge of the organization’s medical staff, had undergone a procedure for the injury on Monday.

The situation has left De la Fuente baffled.

“There are procedures that take place outside the RFEF – that is what happens, that is how it is and we have to accept it,” De la Fuente told RNE, as reported by ESPN.

“But I’ve never experienced a situation like this. I don’t think it’s very normal. Of course it surprised me, as well as everyone else.”

“You hear nothing, you know no details, and I insist that when it comes to health and fitness issues, you remain surprised.”

Spain need four points from their last two qualifying matches to secure their place at next year’s World Cup.

De la Fuente has called up Jorge de Frutos from Rayo Vallecano in place of Yamal.
