Spa weekend in Usedom – two wonderful spa hotels in Heringsdorf

Writer: Helena Bergström

Do you want to experience a wonderful spa weekend at Usedom? We tried two different spa hotels in Heringsdorf and we liked both – in slightly different ways. This is what we talk about Beach hotel Ostseeblick And Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa.

Spa weekend in Usedom

Usedom is a fantastic island in northern Germany, for those who love sandy beaches, spas, nature experiences and good food. It may not be entirely clear at first glance that this is an island – you have to look closely at the map to discover it – but what is clearer is that it is close to Sweden. The easiest way to get here is to take the ferry from Skåne to Swinoujscie. Depending on the route, this takes between 6 and 8 hours.

1. Spahotel i Heringsdorf: Beach hotel Ostseeblick

We first stayed there for two nights Beach hotel Ostseeblickwhich is very centrally located in the middle of the imperial spa town of Heringsdorf, while the hotel has a fantastic view of the sea and the long beach.

This hotel has 60 rooms and is a spa and wellness hotel, which could also be described as a boutique hotel. Today the hotel is back to the descendants of the original owners, but the road to get there was bumpy. During the GDR era, the hotel was confiscated by the state and the owners imprisoned. It was only forty years later that the family was able to buy it back.

This family hotel feels very personal and cozy and you can tell that you have put your heart and soul into the beautiful interior.

The room

We really liked our room, which was both comfortable and stylish. The very best thing about the room was that we had no fewer than two windows and a balcony overlooking the sea. It was truly amazing to see both sunrises and sunsets.

Breakfast and dinner

The breakfast buffet is “sufficiently” large, with lots of goodies. There is no chef making omelettes or anything like that, but there is a smaller selection of hot dishes and some luxury touches such as dessert cheeses and salmon/herring in small beautiful pots.

In the evening, if you wish, you can enjoy dinner in a restaurant Bernstein. A multi-course fine dining menu is served here every evening, which changes every day, and where you can make certain choices, for example whether you want meat, fish or vegetarian as a main course.

Peter started his meal with a starter of endive, truffle and air-dried ham, while I started with a foamy potato soup. Very good!

To start we both chose Iberico meat, and the meal then ended with some sort of apple mousse with ice cream and whipped cream. A great meal!

If you want a simpler meal, you can go to the cozy restaurant across the street Wehrmann’s Alt Heringsdorfthat has the same owner. Here we both chose to eat completely vegetarian. Peter chose two starters: pumpkin soup and chevre toast, and I chose a casserole filled with feta cheese, spinach and mushrooms. Good!

Spa and wellness

Strandhotel Ostseeblick is a spa hotel and the spa department is fantastic. It is modern and stylish and everywhere you can enjoy the magically beautiful view of the beach and the sea.

There are many different types of saunas.

There are also many places to sit and rest: indoors or outdoors.

Of course you can book different types of treatments, from massages to facial treatments. We tried a 25 minute sea buckthorn oil treatment. This was a warm, fragrant and very relaxing treatment, which was interesting to try. But next time we will opt for massage. Anyway, we were very happy with our visit!

2. Spahotel i Heringsdorf: Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa

After the first two nights it was time to transfer to a new spa hotel: Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa. This large and luxurious hotel is located on the boulevard in Heringsdorf, a little further from the center, but still a relatively short walk away.

The hotel offers beautiful surroundings and excellent service.

The room

Our room was very large and nice, with comfortable beds, nice light and good countertops.

On the day we checked out – which happened to be Sinterklaas Day – we were surprised by a little gift outside the door, in the form of a cute bag of chocolate Santas. A nice little gesture!

Breakfast and dinner

The breakfast buffet at the Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa is extensive and also offers the option to order omelettes as well as other egg dishes from the on-site chefs. In addition, there is a wide choice of both hot and cold dishes, and perhaps especially we appreciated the delicious selection of delicious dessert cheeses.

The hotel restaurant, Restaurant Waterkantis of the slightly simpler kind, but very fun. We shared an oven baked camembert to start. As a main course, Peter chose pasta with shrimp and I chose fish and chips. Absolutely excellent!

If you want a more luxurious meal, you can walk 50 meters to the restaurant across the street: Hendriks at Strandhotel Heringsdorf. Here we thought the staff might be feeling a little stressed, but the food was excellent. Both beautiful and good!

As a starter we shared a buffalo burrata and as a main course we chose pike perch and beef tenderloin. To finish we shared one more time: a delicious little dessert with mini chocolate muffin, fruit and ice cream.

Spa and wellness

After all, Steigenberger Grand Hotel & Spa is a spa hotel and the spa department is large and beautiful. We enjoyed the pool and loungers for quite some time and also tried one of the many saunas. On our part, there was no treatment here, but there is of course a wide range of treatments available for those who wish. All in all, we had very nice days in this hotel!

More to see and do in Usedom

Would you like to experience more besides your wellness weekend at Usedom? Yes, there is much more to see and experience! A highlight for us was the island safari on Usedom! Other pleasant experiences included food, wine, coffee and delicacies. This is simply a beautiful island, a relatively short distance from Sweden.

This trip was a press trip organized by Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Tourism Association. All thoughts and opinions are, as always, our own!
