South Africa issues official statement on Jasprit Bumrah’s shocking ‘bauna’ comment on Temba Bavuma

The coach of the South African national cricket team has spoken out about Indian National Cricket Team Prime Minister Jasprit Bumrah’s shocking comments about Proteas captain Temba Bavuma.

South African batting coach Ashwell Prince said they will not hold discussions on the premier Indian pacer’s disrespectful comments in the Proteas dressing room.

No. There will be no argument – Ashwell Prince on Jasprit Bumrah-Temba Bavuma controversy

The first Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa started on Friday, November 14, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. During the first innings of the match, Jasprit Bumrah’s mocking comments about Temba Bavuma quickly went viral on social media.

On the first ball of the 13th over, Jasprit Bumrah hit Temba Bavuma on the pads and appealed, but the umpire rejected it.

Then, during a conversation with Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah called Bavuma a ‘bauna’, meaning dwarf.

This is how the conversation went:

Bumrah – “Bauna bhi toh hai yeh”

Rishabh Pant- “Bauna hai, maar laga yahape”

Jasprit Bumrah – “Bauna hai yeh b*****d”

When South African batting coach Ashwell Prince was asked about Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant’s comments, he said they did not want to talk about it.

“No. There will be no discussion,” Prince said at the press conference after the end of the first day (as quoted by News18). “It’s the first time it’s come to my attention. I don’t think there will be any problems with what happened,” he added.

I think it was a sensational bowling display, especially from Bumrah – Ashwell Prince

Ashwell Prince further praised Jasprit Bumrah for his sensational five-wicket haul in the Kolkata Test, saying he was quite ruthless. He said (as quoted by RevSportz):

“I think it was a sensational bowling show, especially from Bumrah. Siraj didn’t quite hit his belts in his first spell, but came back in his second spell, when he changed ends and was quite good, found his rhythm, and found his line and length.

“But Bumrah was ruthless and the spinners were quite good too. So I think sometimes as a batsman you can’t do much about them but we have to work hard. There is still a long way to go in the match and hopefully we will go big in the second innings.”

I think the signs were there quite early that the revival is not consistent – Ashwell Prince

While talking about the pitch offered for the first Test, Ashwell Prince said there was inconsistent bounce on the surface which made it difficult for the batters. He explained:

“My assessment of the surface and I think probably after four or five deliveries in the first over where one rolled and went four byes and then came up two or three balls later, I think the signs were there quite early on that the bounce is not consistent.

“What can happen very often is that if you expect batters to get 20, 30 and grow in confidence, I don’t really believe that any of the batters have grown in confidence because of the inconsistency of the bounce, and what can happen is that you don’t trust the surface as much as you should after spending an hour at the crease. And then when you’re faced with a quality bowling attack, more often than not they can get the ball into the danger zone and that does too much for you, and unfortunately that’s was the case today.
