Phoenix Suns Center Mark Williams wants to pass his injury -belly location by increasing his power of the lower body. This is according to a report from Duane Rankin of Arizona Republic.
Williams missed the opener of the Suns before season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. He may miss the majority of the preseason, if not the whole. The Suns believe that this is the best path to get it in the best possible shape.
“This is a bit different, but I think it’s just more precaution,” said Williams. “Just try to prepare myself for the season as they said.” It is absolutely new territory for me … It is absolutely different, not playing in the previous season, but it has been good. “
According to the new Suns head coach Jordan Ott, Williams has been aimed at his strength since the beginning of July. He is supposed to have more than doubled his power of his lower body and participates in everything but 5-on-5. Williams said he expected to play the opening night on October 22.
Phoenix acquired Williams via tradeTogether with a second round pick from 2029, in exchange for Vasilije Micic, the 29th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (Liam McNeeley) and a pick of the first round 2029 (the least favorable by Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah).
Suns -Coach Jordan Ott addresses Mark Williams, who will not play in the previous season opener of Friday vs. Lakers in Palm Desert: “Since July 1, he has been more than anyone here and is developing his strength. I think he has more than doubled his lower body power in that period. He … pic.twitter.com/HL48pugvur

Can Williams shed an injury -special tag?
Williams seemed to become a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in February until the trade was withdrawn. The Lakers were reportedly concerned about his medical report and have since continued by signing Deandre Ayton.
In three seasons, Williams only played 106 games. It offers a seductive potential, on average 15.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks in 27 minutes per match last season.
The Suns seem to believe that the majority of his problems arise from his lack of lower body strength, so they have made that an important area of focus this season.
“I think this will be one of his best years for playing in as many games as possible,” said teammate Nick Richards, who was also next to Williams in Charlotte. “I think that as soon as the season starts, he hopefully can play more than 70 games.”
The Suns currently has a platoon of Williams, Richards, Oso Iighadoro and Rookie Kaman Maluach in the middle. They are certainly equipped to handle any extensive absence of their bigs. At the very least they will hope that they have a lot of internal competition to put the best in their centers.
