Solar fans in dreamland after hearing plans for Jalen Green and Devin Booker

If there’s one thing the Phoenix Suns and their fans haven’t seen enough of this season, it’s Devin Booker and Jalen Green playing together in the backcourt.

New signing Green has been limited to just seven games (and just two starts) due to repeated hamstring problems. It’s a shame, as Booker has looked back to his best on some nights.

Brian Gregory sees Booker/Green as a long-term duo in Phoenix

Before the Suns continue their push for the playoffs now that the All-Star break is behind them, General Manager Brian Gregory has spoken about the prospect of Booker and Green playing together in the long term.

As you can see from Duane Rankin by The Arizona Republic above, Gregory is all for the pair being the driving force of Phoenix basketball for years to come.

The slight hesitation in his answer feels like it has more to do with Green’s ability to stay healthy than anything else.

Remember, the Milwaukee Bucks were a team rumored to be interested in his services in the past, and yet we didn’t hear a peep of Green being available at the deadline.

With the right players around them, they make a lot of sense in the backcourt, a turbocharged offensive duo that together can easily give the Suns 50 points on a nightly basis.

The hope is that Green doesn’t lose much of his explosiveness due to the injury setbacks he’s faced this season, but the front office has already built the roster around them correctly.

You need a guy who can play the offensive co-star role in Dillon Brooks from time to time, while also earning his keep on the other end of the field.

It also takes a dominant center who can stay on the court in Mark Williams, plus guys who will do whatever it takes to get minutes (but who can also play outright) in Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea.

The secret sauce here is the three-point shooting, and the Suns boast Gillespie, Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale and Amir Coffey in that area.

Maybe not the most solid defensive structure you’ve ever seen, but head coach Jordan Ott continues to find a way to keep them competitive on that front.

The sample size so far has been small, but sign us up to see how this unfolds when the two players are finally healthy at the same time.
