I am a 69-year-old woman whose snoring has gotten worse over the years. I have tried oral comics that my husband says it helps a lot, but I would like to keep a permanent solution. Can an operation heal me?
Dr. Ellie Cannon answers: Snoring is also a problem for your partner as for you – so you may have all your solution.
Oral strips dissolve on the roof of the mouth or tongue and release ingredients that reduce airways inflammation or dryness to minimize snoring.
Snoring is often related to excess fat around the throat that exerts pressure on the airways and that makes them narrow. This causes a sound when air is forced and breathe out by each inhalation, so in terms of more permanent solutions, even small amounts of weight loss can help.
Anyone who snores must sleep on his side by using a special pillow to keep you in place, or the old-fashioned trick to put a tennis ball along the back of your pajamas.
It is known that smoking and alcohol snore, so a basic step is to avoid it. Like sleeping pills, if possible. For some, snoring is worse with nasal and sinus congestion, so it is worth trying decongestiva such as saline solution nasal spray or sinus rinse.

Also try a nasal dilator that keeps the nostrils open.
Dentists offer mouth shields and guards for snoring, if the problem is specifically in the mouth respiratory -related. These must be mounted and may be expensive, but are worth it if they have a major impact.
In extreme cases, when there is a specific problem in the nose or mouth, surgery would be offered under an ENT clinic – but this is a very important undertaking and not always guaranteed.
I had replaced my right knee In 2014 and can walk without discomfort. But my knees hurt when I am in bed and influence my sleep. What can I do?
Dr. Ellie answers: Knees can hurt for a number of reasons, but in old age it is usually of wear, known as osteoarthritis. This is usually the reason why people have their knees replaced.
Pain like this can influence your movement, sleep and mood, which in turn makes it even more difficult to lose weight at night. It can be tiring and exhausting.
The best way to tackle the problem is to limit different painkiller products to see what helps. Even with severe pain, I recommend starting with paracetamol.
This can be taken four times a day and is a good way to start pain relief. If you can, the next step would be to try freely available anti -inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen. These can be taken next to paracetamol before bedtime and take a few hours – enough to help you through the night.
Doctors can also prescribe other painkillers, such as amitriptyline. A nerve pain painkiller, it is especially good for nocturnal pain, because it also makes people sleepy.
This can be a problem for those who need it all day long, but in this case it can help you to sleep.
A good painkiller regime is needed to help you sleep pain -free, which also means that you feel better during the day and are more able to exercise.
The doctor or clinical pharmacist in your operation is well placed to help you in the right way.
I have an outbreak of warts On my face and neck now spread on my nose. I recently spent £ 600 to have some lased, but I can’t continue to pay every time they come back. How can I reject them forever?
Dr. Ellie answers: Warts can be harmless, but they are also visible and ugly and, just like a number of skin conditions, can come up with emotional luggage.
They are usually few rough growths on the skin caused by an infection with one of the wart viruses, and usually tend to influence hands and feet. Warts on the face and neck are called filiform warts and often come on a small stem in clusters.

Unfortunately, these can continue to exist for years. They are very contagious and can spread if they are picked or irritated too much. Even attempts to treat them can be counterproductive if the virus is unintentionally distributed.
Freezing treatments, in which the wart is exposed to extremely cold temperatures to kill the virus cells, can take several before growth loses and the risk of causing scars and infection.
Meanwhile, current products that you apply contains salicylic acid and can take three months to work. These are also not safe for the face, because it can cause sour skin irritation.
See a dermatologist for face warts instead of a doctor – this should be available on the NHS. In addition to laser treatment, they can offer current treatment, podophyllin or retinoids, similar to those used to treat acne.
They can also inject warts with antiviral fabrics and offer a kind of current chemotherapy.
A dermatologist can help you to weigh serious side effects, such as skin damage, with the possible benefits of the treatments that work in the long term.
Are you younger than 50 with high blood pressure?
For a condition that affects a quarter of adults in the UK, there are many misconceptions about high blood pressure.

Dr. Ellie has noticed an inflow of younger patients in the forty, 30 and even 20s who have high blood pressure – despite the condition associated with older adults
Often labeled with the ‘Silent Killer’, it has no symptoms – but is the main cause of strokes and heart attacks.
There are an abundance of medicines, other treatment and lifestyle changes to control the problem, also known as hypertension and contradictory advice about the best time to take medication.
I am worried about research that shows that half of the patients have stopped their pills within a year, which will endanger their health. I have also noticed an inflow of younger patients in the forty, 30s and even 20s who have high blood pressure – despite the disorder associated with older adults.
