The pacer opened at $4.80 at the Tasmanian Official Price before drifting to $9.
Smooth Deal, trained by Wayne Yole, stepped well and got on Alberio’s back at the first attempt, but a false start was declared when the 10 meter tape failed to clear the track.
The second attempt was a similar story with Alberio finding the top while Smooth Deal was on his back.
Driver Kyle Pratten was able to work away from the cones on Smooth Deal, leaving the straight behind. He proved too soon too late for Alberio ($6) with a distance of 2.7 meters and Done Well ($21) was a close third in a kilometer pace of 2:05.0s.
“I drove him here a while ago and I found that if he can lead or be on the fence, he does really well at this track. If he has to go wide, it’s a different story,” said winning driver Kyle Pratten after the race.
Pratten was participating in his fourth meeting after having a few months off.
“I put my horses in the paddock for the winter. They didn’t enjoy it, and neither did I, but we’ll be back for the summer,” the driver said.
Tasmania’s leading driver Dylan Ford dominated the programme, riding the last four winners to take his 500th career victory.
The milestone came with Goodtime Oscar ($2.90), which achieved a winning treble for the Tammy Langley stable, who also won with Just Follow Me ($2.70 favorite) and Howsweetthesound ($1.80 favorite).
Ford’s fourth victory came with Top Gun Ted ($8.50), with Wayne Yole completing a training treble.
Yole’s other winner was No Nukes Skipper ($6), which was the first leg of a riding double for Gareth Rattray, who was in trouble for the win over Judysmemum ($1.40 favourite), who made it two wins from two starts.
Another favorite to win was Shezalllollies ($2.40), who led the way all the way to claim the $14,000 Maiden event, with the winning connections also receiving their $10,000 Tasbred first win bonus.
