Silhoutte Cove delivered a determined performance to capture Wednesday’s $75,000 Jump Start Stakes at Parx Racing, scoring his first stakes victory for trainer Bernie Houghton and owner Douglas Gibson.
The Jump Start and its companion Disco Chick, for fillies and mares, are both limited to Pennsylvania-bred horses that are also Pennsylvania sired.
The three-year-old Warrior’s Reward gelding, bred in Pennsylvania by Elizabeth R. Houghton, paced from midpack under Frankie Pennington, moving three wide into the far turn and breaking free late to win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:23.76 over seven furlongs over a fast main track.

Come Prima saved ground throughout, challenging inside and taking second ahead of the favorite Wild Vine, who raced wide and just missed out on the place. Early pacesetter Dropline faded to fourth after splits of 23.02 and 46.15, while Houghton Shuffle, Respirator and Ninetyprcentmaddie completed the finishing order.
The victory gave Silhoutte Cove three wins, a second and a third from five starts, with earnings rising to $121,500.
Silhoutte Cove, out at 13-1, returned $28.60, and the exacta, at 14-1 Come Prima in second place, paid $177.20 on a $2 bet.
A race earlier in the Disco Chick, 3-5 favorite Nature’s Candy pushed the early pace under jockey Andy Hernandez before pulling away to win by 2 ½ lengths in 1:26.18 over seven furlongs. Second choice Pachelbel earned the spot and Carousel Queen (13-1) finished third.
Nature’s Candy, a five-year-old Uncle Lino mare trained by Hugo Padilla for Freedom Racing LLC, earned the first win of her career. She has a total of seven wins from twenty career starts and earnings of $326,557.
