After a few years and now a musician of Adelaide believes that he has found a solution to illuminate the home crisis of South Australia.
Jim Paterson, 63, from the band The Borderers, recently bought a small house for less than $ 30,000 from Interstate after not finding an affordable option in SA.
Life in it while he and his wife Alex rent out their own Ridleyton house as Airbnb accommodation, Mr Paterson said that the housing form could be a feasible option for those who are looking for an affordable rent, or for parents who want to give their children some independence, albeit in the back garden.
“People sleep in their cars, and my daughter can’t afford to get her first home, so I started to investigate affordable options and looked at small houses both here and in Queensland, but some costs up to $ 150,000,” Mr Paterson said.

“But an affordable – if they are $ 30,000 as mine, or even $ 50,000 say – that would be a fairly small mortgage and enable them to get on the market and have a place that is of them.
“And these places are not that small, mine has 2.4 m ceilings, a separate bathroom and shower, a head living room with a kitchen and a bank bed, so during the day it is a lounge and at night it is a bed.
“For people who cannot afford a house, or cannot even afford rent – on this point it would create an opportunity and give them a chance that they may not have.”

Mr. Paterson, who made his small house from Tiny Homes 4 you, who also makes versions with two bedrooms, said his house was closed 6m x 2.2 million and easily closed in his backyard.
“People around the world live in this size in places – for many people it is just logical,” he said.

Paul Edwards Paul Edwards of the Real Estate Institute of the legislation and industry of South Australia said that small houses could be a great addition to the housing stock, but said that landlords and tenants should clearly understand their rights and responsibilities before they commit themselves.
“Provided that the floor-to-ceiling height meets the minimum requirements under the Construction Act, and every habitable room is sufficiently lit and ventilated, if it fits and it is habitable, go for it,” he said.

“Provided that the landlord does not disrupt the calm enjoyment of the building, and if the tenant can get privacy and access, then everything that can help to alleviate the current housing crisis.”
