‘Slur Merchant’: Greens Senator calls out to drop Snoop Dogg from Grand Final Show

The senator Sarah Hanson-Young of the Australian Greens has called on the AFF to drop our rapper Snoop Dogg as the main artist for his upcoming grand finale, and said that the Australian talent should support instead of a “slur merchant”.
Snoop Dogg is the newest international star that leads the pre-game show on the Melbourne cricket field.
Robbie Williams, Katy Perry, Meat Loaf and Kiss are other large overseas acts that have performed at the showpiece of the Afl.

But the AFF is confronted with growing criticism of the choice of American rapper, considered one of the most influential of his generation, for earlier homophobic texts and others considered to promote violence against women.

Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg said whose real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus JR, he was looking forward to delivering the show on September 27.
“100,000 fans. And the two best teams. And your boy Big Snoop Do-Double G at the MCG,” he said in his video announcement.
“I can’t wait to see you in September for the Telstra pre-game entertainment that you have been offered by … me.”
Hanson-Young used a speech in the parliament to criticize the choice of Afl.
“Why does the AFL bring in an international artist, a tasty trader, and pays $ 2 million instead of supporting Aussie talent,” she said.
“The AFF is a cultural institution, and such cultural institutions should support the rest of our cultural institutions – our artists, our musicians and our music industry at home here.”
“Still, Snoop Dogg will get $ 2 million to play his misogynistic, homophobic music on our turf,” she said.
“With more than six million people who coordinate with the Afl Grand Final Year on Year, this is a prime time to make our own soil platform. It is time to have Aussie artists rock the ‘g’.

“I insist on the AFL to have the guts to dump Slur-Maker Snoop Dogg and let an Aussie artist fluctuate the stage.”

“He’s changed”

The lyrics of the artist’s song from 1998: Doggz Gonna Gonna Get Ya, include: “I can’t believe that Dogg me/ that fa — t those punk he would do soft or sissy.”
Afl CEO Andrew Dillon defended the decision last week and said that the pre-match entertainment would be a family-friendly event.
“We cannot guarantee every text in every song ever written or performed by an artist who has appeared on our stage – Australian or international,” Dillon said.
“It is also important to remember that we engaged Snoop Dogg in 2025 as the person he is today.
“He has changed, and today he is a grandfather, philanthropist. He helps the youth to rehabilitate and is a global entertainer who has performed both the Super Bowl and the Olympic final ceremony for the audience of more than 100 million people.”
In 2015, Snoop Dogg said that his attitude towards women was “changed” since the earlier days of his career.
“I am more sensitive and more vulnerable and accept a woman because he is a beautiful person, as opposed to me that she is a B-TCH of Wh-Re, because that was how I was trained when I first started,” said the rapper in an interview with Sky News.

“As I grew, I fell in love with my wife and I started to love my mother, my grandmother and my daughter. I understood what a woman was, and I started to write about and express it.”

‘Serious assessment error’

Hanson-Young is not the only one who has expressed concern about hiring Snoop Dogg for implementation.
Organizations for violence prevention, including respect Victoria, gender equality Victoria, sexual attack Services Victoria and much more, have issued a joint statement shortly after the announcement of the AFL and said that the decision to organize an artist “whose texts promote violence” “dangerous and poorly thought out”.
“We know that many response organizations will be busy, as they are always, during the grand finale – a time when we traditionally see an increase in the number of violence,” said the explanation.
“Promoting violence by hosting an artist who has openly talked about and has earned money with violence against women [through his lyrics] Is a serious opinion of the opinion that we call the end to resolve immediately. “
In 2007, the Snoop Dogg coalition government prohibited from entering Australia to present a music prize show in Sydney, and said that he did not meet the character requirements for a visa after he was convicted of drug and firearms in the United States.
