Liverpool have endured a difficult defense of the title and currently sit fourth in the table after a disappointing draw against Leeds on New Year’s Day. The Reds are already twelve points behind leaders Arsenal.
Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Fulham, Slot said he believes the title race will be between top sides Gunners and second-placed Manchester City.
The Citizens are four points behind Arsenal ahead of the weekend action, while third-placed Aston Villa are two points further back.
“Realistically, I think there are two teams,” Slot said of the title race at his pre-match press conference.
“[Aston] Villa are very close but Arsenal created a small gap by beating Villa and those two teams are quite far away from us and we should not look at those two at the moment.
“We had problems all the time. We started very well in terms of results, the games were very close, then we had a phase of the season where the games were still very close, but we were constantly unlucky.
“Now we are unbeaten in eight games, but when you say this, you have the feeling: ‘They are flying through the competition.’ But that’s not what we do. Every game we play is hard work. Above all, we are the team that is probably better, but not enough.”
