Slot fully understands the frustration of Liverpool fans – Football News

Arne Slot “fully understands” the frustrations of Liverpool fans after sections of the Anfield crowd apparently jeered at his team following Saturday’s draw against Burnley.

Liverpool were reduced to a 1-1 draw by the relegation-fighting Clarets, with Marcus Edwards canceling out Florian Wirtz’s opener.

Wirtz’s goal came after Dominik Szoboszlai tapped the crossbar from a penalty.

Liverpool finished the match with 32 shots, 11 of which ended up on target, while taking their expected goals total to 3.18.

Their shot count is the most in a Premier League match since the match against Brentford in January last season (37), but that hasn’t stopped the home fans voicing their frustration at full-time.

“In my head it was not cheering, but in my head it was also frustration,” Slot told BBC Sport.

“If you as Liverpool are not disappointed by a home draw against Burnley, then something is very wrong.

“I completely understand the frustration. I have the same frustrations and the players certainly have the same frustrations as the fans.”

Cody Gakpo had an effort cleared off the line, while Hugo Ekitike had a goal disallowed for offside, although Liverpool did rely on Alisson to get them out of trouble ahead of Edwards’ equalizer as the goalkeeper prevented an Ibrahima Konate own goal.

For the first time since the top-flight season of 1980/81 (D1 L2), Liverpool have failed to win any of their three home games against newly promoted sides, with all three games drawn in 2025/2026.

“I agree that we should have won this match,” Slot said. “There wasn’t much more I could ask for in terms of creating chances. We have a lot of ball possession, but I would like to see us create more.”

“When we play a bit more openly, you always wonder if the other team can counter you more, which is not possible. I don’t know how many moments we had, but we could only score one.”

“They come in different ways. Sometimes we score a goal in stoppage time and you expect to win the game and then you concede another goal in stoppage time.”

“But yes, in football one team can have two chances – one was almost an own goal from us – and score one goal, while the other team has several chances and only scores one goal.”
