The News24 name “builds on the proud history and legacy of one of the world’s leading news brands,” the subscription news provider says.
SKY News Australia will be rebranded as News24 later this year.
Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert said: “We can now reveal that we will have a new name later this year, and that name is News24. It builds on the proud history and legacy of one of the world’s largest news brands, News Corp, which started here in Australia. Our name is changing, but our news brand is not.”
The logo script is taken from the handwriting of Rupert Murdoch. Later this year there will also be a new on-air look, with graphics and website.
SKY’s current 10-year licensing agreement with Comcast-owned SKY News expires in December 2026.
The name announcement comes as the network celebrates 30 years in Australia.
CEO Paul Whittaker said: “As we celebrate the official opening of our new world-class broadcast center and studios today, we are evolving once again by announcing a new name for the future of our network that embraces News Corp.’s proud heritage and editorial credentials.
“We are ready to own our own future with the launch of News 24 later this year, which will reflect our evolution from a traditional linear TV channel to a globally ambitious multi-platform news and opinion media brand. By adopting the Newsscript, News24 creates a visible connection to a century of journalistic excellence founded by Sir Keith and Rupert Murdoch, which continues today under the leadership of News Corp global chairman Lachlan Murdoch.
“And 24 reflects our continued commitment to providing our viewers with 24-hour live news coverage as it happens, whenever and however they want to watch it. While our name will change, our news brand won’t. You’ll still see all the faces and names you know and trust and the same compelling offering of breaking news, incisive analysis and candid commentary.
“Later this year, viewers will also see a refreshed on-air look, relaunched digital products including a new dedicated website, news24.com.au, and enhanced journalism capabilities.”
Sky News Australia’s existing portfolio of broadcast channels, streaming products and digital assets will transition to the News24 name later this year. The network will be available on existing broadcast and streaming platforms including Foxtel, Binge, regional free-to-air television, FAST channels on connected TVs, podcasts, via Facebook and YouTube and available as an audio stream on DAB+ radio in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. News24 will be available in New Zealand via Sky Television.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns today officially opened News Corp Australia’s new broadcast center in Sydney, marking 30 years since the launch of Australia’s first 24-hour news channel. The world-class facility at News Corp Australia’s Surry Hills headquarters creates one of the country’s largest multi-platform journalism and broadcasting centres, with Sky News Australia’s operations aligned with News Corp Australia’s publishing brands.
News Corp Australasia Executive Chairman Michael Miller and Sky News Australia CEO Paul Whittaker joined the Prime Minister and NSW Premier for the official launch, alongside business leaders and Sky News presenters including Peter Stefanovic, Laura Jayes, Kieran Gilbert, Andrew Clennell, Ross Greenwood, Chris Kenny, Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Sharri Markson, Paul Murray and Rita Panahi.
The purpose-built broadcast center supports more than 1,500 hours of content delivered across broadcast and digital platforms every week. Built and commissioned for broadcast within a year, the facility features eight studios, six control rooms, extensive editing suites and voice-over booths, an expanded newsroom and new asset management systems. The Holt Street integration marks the network’s third location in Sydney, following the opening studios in Frenchs Forest in 1996 and the Foxtel broadcast center from 2006. Content agencies Medium Rare, Storyation and Visual Domain will join multimedia hub News Corp Australia in the coming months.
