Skelton ‘seduced’ by Newbury running for panic attack | At The Races

Dan Skelton has not ruled out a tilt at the Coral Gold Cup with his Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Panic Attack.

The nine-year-old, owned by Bryan Drew, extended the Skelton team’s rich run of form when he took on the flagship event of the Cheltenham meeting on Saturday, giving the trainer and his jockey brother Harry their first victory in the race.

Skelton had suggested her next outing over the Christmas period in Doncaster would be in the Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase as he plots a route back to Prestbury Park for the Mares’ Chase at the festival.

However, the Lodge Hill handler has now admitted his head will be turned by Newbury’s prestigious handicap on November 29.

“Panic Attack is still part of the Coral Gold Cup and I am more than tempted,” said Skelton.

“I said Doncaster (for the Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase) after the Paddy Power Gold Cup and I still think about Doncaster, but if she comes bucking and screaming and saying to us ‘let’s give it a go’ then she is nine years old and she won’t be around for another three years.

“She will be fined £4 and Harry won’t be able to ride her as he will at Newcastle, so Tristan Durrell (claiming £5) will ride her, so effectively she will only carry £1 more than Cheltenham. I won’t be tempted by it.”
