Couldn’t Italy have one, but two of their own players in the singles field of the prestigious Nitto ATP final?
Jannik Sinner has already booked his place for the season finale, while fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti is eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. The next two months will be decisive for the 23-year-old Italian, who insist on his debut during the end of the year at home.
Musetti leads the field during the Chengdu Open of this week, where he reached the final last year before he fell home favorite Shang Juncheng. The best results of Musetti this season include his Maiden ATP Masters 1000 Final performance in Monte-Carlo, followed by semi-final runs in Madrid, Rome and at Roland Garros. The two -time titlist at tour level reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, where Sinner drove him.

If Musetti joined Sinner in Turin, it would be the first time that two Italians were eligible for the Nitto ATP Finals. In 2021, Matteo Berrettini qualified for the event, but withdrew after one game due to a belly injury. Sinner, the first alternative, replaced Berrettini. The 24-year-old sinner has qualified for his own merit in the past two seasons. Last year he won the event without dropping a set.
First placed Alcaraz and the second sinner placed are the only qualifications of singles so far. Fifth placed Shelton and Musetti want to make their Nitto ATP Finals debut. Andrey Rublev (11th) and Alexander Bublik (15th) belong to those who play and try to fight this week. Rublev and Bublik will be in action at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou.
The double field can also contain Italians for the Turin public to find out. In sixth place in the Rankings of PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams is Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, who have collected four titles on tour level this season: Adelaide, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Washington. They also reached the Australian Open -Final and the title match in Halle.
The British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool are the first in the ranking of PIF ATP Doubles teams. They keep an 830-point lead in second place Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. Granollers and Zeballos won the US Open, where they save three championship points to beat Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury in an exciting final.
