SEA Games 2025 – Kayla Sanchez continues dream debut for the Southeast Asian Games
In the women’s events, Kayla Sanchez medals numbers six and seven added as she aims to become the most medal-winning athlete at the 33rd SEA Games.
The Team Philippines swimmer took home the silver medal in the women’s 50-meter freestyle before galvanizing her team forward in the third leg for silver in the women’s 4×200-meter freestyle on Sunday (December 14).
Sanchez has medaled in every event she has competed in during her debut Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok. With three gold and four silver medals, she is one event away from a 100 percent medal record.
In the 50 meter freestyle, the 24-year-old was defeated by the Singaporean by 0.12 seconds Amanda Lim Xiang Qiwho set a new SEA Games record with a ferocious performance of 25.03. The bronze medal went to Sanchez’s Philippine teammate, Heather White.
With the Philippines in third place after Sanchez’s participation in the third leg relay, the double Olympic medalist took them ahead of Singapore and within touching distance of Thailand. The hosts held on for a seismic triumph as the Philippine quartet added silver to their 4x100m freestyle relay gold, ahead of bronze medalists Vietnam.
The swimming competition at the SEA Games concludes on Monday (December 15), with the men’s and women’s breaststroke finals, the women’s 4x100m medley final and the men’s 200m butterfly final scheduled.
