Introduction of one of my favorite simple salad recipes. This tomato, basil and mozzarella Caprese salad is an easy summer favorite that our whole family loves. We often make it in the summer when our tomatoes are in the season. This classic Italian dish is light, tasteful and delicious!
Classic Caprese Salad
This starter (or side dish) can really not be easier. The only thing needed is to cut, control and sprinkle herbs. Known in Italy as Insalata Caprese, nobody is pretty sure where it originated, although it is thought that it started on the island of Capri. Others have noticed that the patriotic parable with the Italian flag is. But it came about, this seasoned tomato salad is oh so good!
It is quickly put together, but still looks impressive, making it perfect for a weekday dinner or your next BBQ.
I often think that the simplest recipes are sometimes the most delicious. Especially when they benefit from seasonal products. Few things taste better than a really fresh peach, tomato or salad immediately after they have been picked.
Caprese Ingredients
Because the ingredients are simple, there is not much to hide when it comes to Caprese. Watery, rubbery tomatoes do not taste very good here. I like to use tomatoes or heirs from the farmers’ market for the best Caprese salad. Some freshly ground black pepper and flaky sea salt or kosher salt really help to bring out the flavors of the tomato. However, salt of good quality will work.
I love the salad plane, but you can also add a balsamic reduction (aka balsamic vinegar glaze) or vinaigrette -moth. Make it a meal and add some grilled chicken on the side!
For a nice variation, try individual caprese salad skewers. Wire grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes on skewers with basil leaves and mozzarella balls in between.
