A British woman in Turkey cannot go back to the UK to continue her medical treatment for a brain tumor due to a lack of available hospital beds in her hometown Liverpool. Gill Taylor-Scarth, 56, traveled with her family to Hisaronu in Turkey on 15 August for a vacation.
She was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after the death of her 65-year-old husband Keith Scarth. The holiday to Turkey was paid by her husband before his tragic death in December last year. Gill decided to travel to Turkey to spend time with her family after she had received the green light through her medical team in the Walton Center.
She became seriously ill during vacation and was eventually taken to a private hospital in Antalya. She underwent an eight -hour operation on 26 August, after Turkish doctors told the family that they needed immediate operation.
Her daughter Sophie Taylor, 25, said the Liverpool Echo: “She made an operation and the surgeons said they are happy with how things went.
“She is stable at the moment and we hope to get her home as soon as possible on a medical flight, if she is able to do that. It has been a nightmare.”
However, Sophie claims that the family has since been informed that Gill cannot be flown back to Liverpool to continue her treatment because there are currently no beds available in the Walton Center.
“We really have trouble getting her home,” Sophie said. “It is almost a month since she is sick and she is stuck in the hospital, where they do not speak English. She is really agitated and frustrated because she just wants to go home. She cries daily; it has a mental influence on her. It was a complete nightmare.
“I am really worried about her mental health and physical health; she has sustained pneumonia since the operation, and she gets worse.
“I don’t understand why she can’t just go to the spacious or somewhere. The family flies back and forth, some more money costs. I have a two -year -old at home that I can’t see because I am here with Mama. We just want her home.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for The Walton Center said: “We work closely with the family and the insurance company in the following steps to repatriate in a medically suitable way. All patients must be rigorously assessed to guarantee the correct admission.”
