The first island golf course of Saudi Arabia is putting a new benchmark for luxury, sustainability and play of world class
Shura on the left, the first island golf course in Saudi Arabia and the center of an unparalleled development of luxury resort on the Red Sea, is open.
Designed by the acclaimed architect Brian Curley and managed by Golf Saudi, the groundbreaking project reflects the robust investment of the Kingdom in Golf and the growing reputation as a global destination for the game.
“Shura Left offers 18 unique and visually amazing holes in a beautiful island environment that will define golf in the region,” said Curley. “Our goal was to create a course that is both strategically and forgiving, where golfers can enjoy the ground game and be inspired by the by the sea.”
A distinctive island behind
Sturned by indigenous mangroves and clear white dunes, with long stretches that embrace the coastline of the Red Sea, Shura was devised to merge seamlessly in his unique environment with a layout that welcomes all play levels. PAR 72, the Measures 7,400 meters from its T-pieces Championship, with the option to go beyond 7,700 Yards for professional and top amateur competitions. But the flexibility of the design h been hindered with wide playing corridors, fast, rolling conditions and open approaches that invite different perspectives of attacks and ground-up options in windy conditions a fair and compelling test for both elite and daily golfers.
Greens are large and richly preformed, with backstops, bowls, feeder slopes and drains that are intended to find a balance between the shot -broken challenge and user -friendly playability. Although the soft terrain runs easily, the sturdy surfaces are also well suited for carts.
Bold Bunkering is one of the determining characteristics of the layout, at the same time strategic and visually striking. Many of the sandy areas are hard-packed expansions that make relatively easy recovery possible, while the formal bunkering transitions outdoor edges with irregular lines has, in accordance with the naturalistic design theme. Irregular Turflijnen also reflect that aesthetics.
Extra wave height points
-Signature holes include Dune-Opstrasting Par-3s (Nos. 6 and 15) that play directly to the Red Sea and a dramatic, riding par-4 (no. 16) for late round risk agreement.
-Two hectare, family -friendly well course, adjacent to the clubhouse and suitable for all ages and skills
– Extensive grass exercise range, placing green and short game, with Premium Callaway balls.
-Two recurring nines, plus green-fee options with tail for 9 or 18-hole
– Professional golf instruction for individuals, families and groups, led by PGA qualified teachers on site.

An environmental prings case
Shura on the left is built with durability in the core and only has 70 hectares of irrigated grass, all platinum in passpalum, a drought and salt tolerant grass with superior appearance, playability and maintenance benefits on all surfaces. The Toro irrigation system is designed for maximum water efficiency, while the landscape also integrates white sand extensions through Curley-Wagner design, palms and flowering trees. The important construction effort was handled in-house by Richard Haas of Red Sea Global, which contributed substantially to the general design building process.
The design philosophy emphasizes playability without extreme punishment, creating a visually seductive, accessible course.
“Too many desert courts punish golfers with lost balls in thick vegetation of non-turf areas,” said Curley. “Here the course is framed by brilliant white sand and open extensions interrupted with eruptions of natural dunes vegetation that inspire creativity while the game keeps moving.”
