In a post on He added: “The state has been on fire since 2023, and it is on fire again.”
The comments came when the Prime Minister was in Assam to inaugurate and announce development projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore. Highlighting the proximity of the two states, Khera wrote, “You are already in Assam today. Manipur is just an hour away. Please go there too. The Prime Minister’s presence can go a long way in reassuring our people in Manipur.”
‘WE EVEN BOOKED YOUR FLIGHT’
In a sharp gesture, Khera claimed that the Congress had ‘even booked a flight’ for the Prime Minister from Guwahati to Imphal.
“To make things easier for you, we have even booked your flight from Guwahati to Imphal, all you have to do is board the plane,” he wrote, sharing what he described as a flight ticket.
“Since I don’t have your number, I am sharing your flight ticket here. Please use it and show that the ‘PM is CARES’,” he added with a swipe at the Centre.
The post quickly sparked sharp reactions online, with supporters amplifying demands for a visit from the prime minister and critics questioning the tone of the message.
MANIPUR IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Manipur has witnessed prolonged unrest since 2023, with periodic flare-ups intensifying political tensions. Opposition parties have repeatedly criticized the Centre’s handling of the situation and called for immediate intervention from the Prime Minister, while the government has maintained that efforts are being made to restore peace and normalcy.
Khera’s comments seek to strengthen this demand, arguing that a visit by the prime minister would send a message of reassurance to residents of the conflict-torn state.
There was no immediate response from the Prime Minister’s Office on the Congress leader’s post.
