A 61-year-old man shot a neighbor on Thursday in the Pennsylvania countryside on Thursday and then bothered the reacting state of troopers, in which two were injured while they were firing for tens of rounds of a semi-automatic weapon, the police said.
The boyfriend of Lori Wasko called 911 after 11 am from their house near Thompson to report shots that were fired, the State Police Colonel Christopher Paris told reporters. WASKO, 57, was shot and killed outside her house near her vehicle, the police said. The police have not provided any information about a motive in the shooting.
A man who was identified as Carmine Faino, 61, shot Wasko and then shot troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins when they arrived, said Paris. The police vehicles of the troopers were struck by several bullets, he said.
Both troopers were in a stable state with serious injuries on Wednesday evening, he said.
Paris said that the troopers “were sent to check the well -being of an individual. And there was additional information about shots that were fired. But on their arrival they were immediately retired and lured into an ambush. They were very lucky that they live.”
Perechinsky adjusted a tourniquet to Jenkins, and a third trooper could help them save, said Paris.
Paris praised Perechinsky for his actions after he had been shot, first aid provided to his colleague and worked to prevent further injuries or death.
“Perechinsky was able to order a tractor trailer who drove past, and he ordered the driver of that tractor trailer to pull his semi-rig over the road, so that more people would not ride that roadway and possibly be subjected to the fire,” said Paris, said Paris.
Perechinsky was “still thinking at that time, after I was shot twice in the chest, what can I do to secure this location? What can I do to ensure that no one else is injured?” Said Paris.
The troopers were flown to hospitals for medical care.
Josh Shapiro government called the two troops heroes and said that Perechinsky saved “lives.”
“He acted decided. He acted carefully. And the work he did today is an example of the absolute best of Pennsylvania’s State Police,” Shapiro said Thursday.
Foino had a gun and did not stick to the requirements, said a statement from the State Police. He was “finally shot and killed during the incident,” said the police.
The shooting happened about 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of the municipality of Thompson, about 163 miles (262 kilometers) north of Philadelphia.
Angelica Howell, a deputy coroner in Susquehanna County, said shortly after 3 p.m. that she was on her way to the shooting location.
Erika Mills, who lives less than a mile from where the shootings took place, said that it caused a frightening day in a community that is useful peaceful.
“This is a very quiet city. There has never been anything similar,” she said.
