On a day when Matt Targett has sealed a loan movement to Middlesbrough, another Newcastle defender is now linked to what a shock output would be.
According to Fabrizio RomanoSven Botman receives late interest rate from Bayern Leverkusen prior to Monday’s deadline.
He reports that the Bundesliga side has started a surprise test about a possible movement for the Dutchman, in which Leverkusen Botman identifies as a new center-back target as Piero Hincapie receives Premier League interest.
It is seen as a ‘difficult’ and ‘unlikely’ deal in front of Erik ten Hag to jerk off, with Newcastle not interested in the sale of the 25-year-old, especially in this late stage of the window.
Romano wrote this afternoon on X, said: ‘Bayer Leverkusen has conducted an investigation into Sven Botman as a new center back goal in the case of Hincapié leaves.
“Deal is seen as more than difficult, Newcastle does not want to sell Botman, so unlikely that it will happen.”
Botman has not yet started this season, with Dan Burn and Fabian Schar with two games in our opening, but the former Lille star is a large part of the plans of Eddie Howe and is expected to have a long-term partner for new signing Malick Thiaw.
He has had a number of knee problems, which limited him during the preseason after missing the majority of 2024/25, and has entered the club for the last two years.
One to look in Windows to come if he cannot stay fit and does not earn a contract extension, but we cannot see Newcastle that offer even in this phase of the summer, with all the focus on recruiting at least one striker.
