Shelby American has unleashed its most job-oriented Mustang ever and introduced the Shelby Super Snake-R 2026 during Monterey Car Week. This widebody sports car with a limited edition, based on the Dark Horse of Ford Mustang, contains 850+ hp, a refined coil-over independent suspension, aero components of carbon fiber and a large number of performance-upgrades designed for one thing: absolute dominance on the circuit.
“The roots of the Shelby Super Snake come from a rich history of motorsport, because the first Shelby Super Snake was built in 1967 for fast runs on the circuit,” said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American. “However, the ‘R’ model designation has never been applied to a Shelby Super Snake. We can build a small number of the 2026 model car at a much higher level of performance, which has yielded the special ‘R’ model.”
Starting with the 500 hp Ford Mustang Dark Horse Fastback, Shelby Supercharge the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, with 850+ reliable PKs unlocking. Buyers can choose between a TREMEC TR-3160 Six-speed gearbox or an automatic transmission with 10 gears.
“The Shelby Super Snake-R from 2026 was optimized at every level with the help of the best components available to create a dominant track star,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American. “We unlock the reliable 5.0-liter Coyote’s great potential by superchargering … Serious enthusiasts can drive a powerful sports car that easily runs into peak.”
The most important highlights are a widened position, shelby-specific chassis rise, metal spherical suspension buses, a cable bolt and massive 335 section Michelin tires stopped under sculpted metalwidebody fat boards. Carbon fiber and lightweight magnesium alloys are frequently used to keep weight up to only 4,004 pounds – only 116 more than the basic dark horse – despite 40% more power.
“The new suspension is a real game changer,” said Vince Laviolette, vice president of Shelby American of Operations and Senior Designer. “When you are ready to be a job king, your car has arrived.”
Priced from $ 224,995, including the Base Mustang Dark Horse, the Shelby Super Snake-R is offered through Shelby-authorized distributors in the US, with selected international availability.
